To begin, ensure that your plastics are completely free of any contaminants to achieve optimal adhesion for the graphics, particularly when applying them to a brand new bike with OEM plastics. For the best results, we suggest using brake cleaner along with a microfiber cloth.
Next, start with a straightforward task like applying the front plate graphic, as these are usually symmetrical. Use a sharp box cutter to lightly score a 10mm strip of the backing paper, being careful not to press too hard and cut through the decal itself.
With the 10mm strip of adhesive exposed, you can align all edges before fully adhering the decal, alleviating any concerns about it sticking prematurely. Once everything is aligned, press down firmly and use a swiping motion to secure the 10mm strip to the plastic.
Now that the center is adhered, you can focus on the left and right sides. Begin by peeling back the backing paper about 10-15mm on one side, then press the decal down until you reach the paper again. Continue this process until the backing is completely removed and one side of the decal is fully applied. After that, repeat the same steps for the other side. If you encounter any difficult curves or edges, a hair dryer or low-heat setting on a heat gun can help soften the decal for easier application.
Keep in mind that there is an initial adhesion when you first apply the decals, followed by a stronger bond once they have fully set to the plastics. For the best adhesion, we recommend using a hair dryer or heat gun, or simply placing the plastics in the sun to allow the decals to properly bond.
